Peanut recall - updated list
President Obama wants to be sure his kids have safe peanut butter to eat. He does not want to worry. Neither do most of us. The last administration chose to not staff the FDA food inspectors choosing to reduce that number.
That's why it is so nice to have a caring parent in the White House - one who sees his own children as reflective of all nations' children - deserving and needing untainted food.
Here is the FDA update list - just for teh peanut recall - it's very long! http://cli.gs/ZjeYTe

Peanut butter is once again being implicated as the source of a major samlonella outbreak in the US (Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter were the implicated sources in the previous outbreak).
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) today issued a product advisory after MDA’s preliminary laboratory testing indicated the presence of Salmonella bacteria in a 5-pound container of King Nut brand creamy peanut butter.

Obesity and Thyroid Damage
Saw this article the other day and it's scary...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081203/hl_nm/us_obesity_children_3
I take a synthetic thyroid hormone daily and even with that there are occasional problems. At my age, I am tuned into my body and can wait it out to see if it's temporary or if I need to get tested and get a different dosage. Not sure I could have done that as a young child.
Mine was not set off by obesity but something else...but I do know that managing my weight has been an on again off again issue for me until now. Why now? I take a whey product that works - and I have lost inches of fat - that belly at that is so dangerous for us. [disclaimer - I also market the product.]
Please parents - if you or your children are obese do something about it...Obesity is life threatening and related to nothing good.

Obese children may be damaging their thyroids, creating a vicious cycle of metabolism and overweight, Italian researchers reported on Wednesday. Why scary? I developed a thyroid problem when in my 40's and ultimately had to have my thyroid nuked. Before that solution I would go from hyper to hypothyroid at different times so I know first hand what both sets of symptoms do to you and your body! and it's scary.Obesity may cause inflammation that damages the thyroid, which secretes hormones to regulate metabolism and other important functions, Dr. Giorgio Radetti of the Regional Hospital of Bolzano in Italy and colleagues said.
They evaluated 186 overweight and obese children for about three years, testing thyroid hormone levels and thyroid antibodies and imaging the thyroid gland using ultrasound.
"Our study shows that alterations in thyroid function and structure are common in obese children and we may have uncovered the link," Radetti said in a statement.
